International experts say Shannon can develop as international centre for business aviation

Shannon Airport has the opportunity to become a crossroads for business aviation globally thanks to its newly improved status as the only airport in the world with US preclearance for corporate jet travelers, international experts have told a joint Shannon Airport and Shannon Development hosted conference.

The two-day Financial Solutions for Business Aircraft (FiSBA) conference, held at Shannon Airport on June 29-30, heard that corporate jet operators internationally are looking closely at how they can maximize opportunities at Shannon Airport arising from the unique pre-clearance offering for the US and recent procedural changes, which significantly speeds up turn-around times at the airport, introduced only last week.

Michael Ryan, general manager, Signature Flight Support, Ireland, said, “Given that Shannon is the only airport in the world with US preclearance for business aviation and that the States is so pivotal internationally in this area, Shannon now has a unique global selling point. It can become a crossroads for international business aviation and there are many opportunities that will flow from this."

Speaking at the conference, Shannon Airport director, Mary Considine added, “The changes introduced only last week, are extremely timely with this conference taking place, and will be a real catalyst for significant development of business aviation at Shannon. Business Aviation grew by 10% in 2010 and we are experiencing strong growth for the first five months of 2011. There has also been a significant number of enquiries from international operators since the recent changes were announced."
