Gulfstream Aerospace celebrates flight test program milestone

Gulfstream Aerospace has reflected on the first ten flight tests for the Gulfstream G500 and Gulfstream G600 jets. The jets are twin-engine, with the G500 replacing the G450. The G500 has a range of 5,000 nautical miles (9,260km) at Mach 0.85, with nonstop flights connecting distant cities such as Istanbul to Cape Town, Los Angeles to London, and San Francisco to Tokyo. The G600 can fly 4,800 nautical miles (8,890km) at a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90, and seats up to 19 passengers, with room for nine to sleep.

CHC Helicopter opens improved customer facilities in North Denes

CHC Helicopter, the world’s largest offshore helicopter operator, has opened improved customer facilities at its North Denes base after a £300,000 (US$466,055) investment.

Opened by Simon Gray, CEO of the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR), the refurbishment of the terminal and operations buildings includes an upgraded flight operations building, new office space and improved facilities for passengers such as a new waiting area, security check-in area and environmentally friendly heating and lighting. The work was carried out by local contractors Sabre Construction.

Gray commented at the opening, “CHC Helicopter’s investment in the base, is welcomed by the local community and the energy industry alike. We know there’s a growing need for helicopter services in the burgeoning energy industry in our region. Local businesses also benefit from CHC’s presence; the buoyancy of our local economy is very much linked to the base’s operations.

Mark Abbey, CHC regional director for West North Sea (UK, Ireland and Netherlands), added, “By investing in our North Denes location, we’re demonstrating our commitment to the region and to the many customers we serve here. This base is crucial to us as we help our customers go further and do more in the North Sea. The energy sector remains strong and this refurbishment is a key part of our readiness to respond to our customers’ increasing needs for helicopter services in 2013 and beyond.”

Howard Beames, CHC base manager for North Denes, said, “We’re really proud of the new facility and the improvements we’ve made for our passengers. North Denes is a busy and growing base for CHC, moving over 50,000 offshore workers each year with our four new technology AW139 aircraft.”
