Summer camp inspires the workforce of tomorrow

Educating children about business aviation and inspiring their future career choice is the aim of a new summer camp currently taking place in the USA.

Set up by Auburn University in Atlanta, Georgia, in association with Cox Enterprises, the week-long camp is aimed at ninth to 12th grade students and features lectures by guest speakers, field trips and the chance to test their skills on a flight simulator. The idea is to help children learn more about the wide number of career choices in this unique segment of the industry.

James Birdsong, Auburn University’s professor of aviation, told, “The goal of the camp is to show students a lot of different career options from [business] aviation to airlines to ATC and maintenance and more. The camp helps them start to connect the dots between what they think they want to do and how to pursue that journey. Hopefully, it will inspire and empower students to move toward a career in aviation.”
