McKinney National Airport breaks ground on new US$16m FBO terminal

The city of McKinney has broken ground on the future home of the US$16m McKinney Air Center, a state-of-the-art fixed-base operator (FBO) terminal at the McKinney National Airport. The terminal will span 17,000ft2, in addition to a 40,000ft2 transient hangar. Read more on this story here.

Donegal ranked as world’s most stunning runway in 2018 Scenic Airport Poll

Private jet booking platform, PrivateFly, has revealed the results of its Scenic Airport Poll 2018, with Ireland’s Donegal Airport being ranked as the world’s most beautiful landing spot. The annual survey, which was conducted in February 2018, asked 8,500 travellers to name their top landing location. Other airports listed in the top ten include Barra in Scotland, Nice in France and Queenstown in New Zealand.

PrivateFly unveils its most popular charter aircraft for Q1

PrivateFly has revealed Cessna aircraft have been its most popular charter jets for Q1 of 2018, with five of its type making the top 10. The most-chartered long-range jet is currently the Gulfstream GIV.

The insights are from PrivateFly’s latest edition of Private Jet Charter Trends, which looks at the booking and flying behavior of its global on-demand private jet customers during January to March 2018 (Q1).

The private jet booking service sees over 100,000 flight searches per month on its website and app.

PrivateFly’s top 10 charter aircraft in Q1 2018 were:

1. Cessna Citation Mustang.
2. Cessna Citation CJ2/CJ2+.
3. Cessna Citation XLS/XLS+.
4. Embraer Phenom 100.
5. Embraer Phenom 300.
6. Hawker 800/800XP.
7. Cessna Citation Bravo.
8. Beech BE200 Super King Air.
9. Cessna Citation CJ3.
10. Gulfstream GIV.

Adam Twidell, CEO of PrivateFly, commented, “While we flew clients on 81 different models of charter aircraft in the first quarter of this year, some are clearly more popular than others. Many factors influence customers’ choice of aircraft but several Cessna models continue to hit a sweet spot of reliability, availability and price – and reflect the industry-wide volume driven by short flights of under two hours.

“But Cessna and Embraer ought to be looking over their shoulders at the HondaJet this summer. It’s not yet in our top 10 but we are getting very positive feedback from our customers who are using it, and availability in Europe is now starting to increase.

“The Gulfstream GIV is proving very popular for longer flights. More cost-effective and with better availability than its newer Gulfstream siblings, rival Falcons or Globals, it still packs the power, range and reputation for our transatlantic or transcontinental routes.”
