FAI Asset Management, a member of the Germany-based FAI Aviation Group, is broadcasting the construction of its latest hangar online. Anyone interested in checking on the progress can view the Construction Cam here.

Ground broke on the facility, set to be the third FAI hangar at Albrecht Dürer Airport in Nuremberg, northern Bavaria, on August 15. Named Hangar 8, the US$6.7m building is set for completion in March 2017, comprising 4,500m2 of hangar space and 300m2 of offices. Designed in-house by FAI CEO Siegfried Axtmann, its style will mirror the existing FAI properties, and it will also be carbon neutral. FAI Technik, the operator’s in-house maintenance division, specializing in Bombardier aircraft, is expected to make the most use of the new hangar, bolstering its 60-strong team with 10 additional engineers, with storage also improved.

Axtmann said, “We have a great team of technical experts who maintain our own fleet, as well as the privately owned aircraft we manage. The new hangar gives us the opportunity to strengthen the numbers and add even more skills to our diverse range of expertise. The increased capacity will also support FAI’s expansion into the aircraft storage market. The number of aircraft being put up for sale in Europe is increasing and there is a growing demand for air-conditioned hangar space to keep them in mint condition before a sale.”

Of the decision to broadcast the hangar’s construction online, Axtmann added, “It’s a major construction and we thought this would be a great way to showcase its development to our colleagues around the world.”
