Unifi has expanded its UK operations by winning its first business aviation ground handling contract and third FBO security contract at London Oxford Airport.

The company has taken over ramp handling operations and fueling services at the facility, which ranks fifth in the UK for business aviation movements. The ground handling arrangement began April 15 with security operations set to commence May 1.

Unifi will become the first external company to manage ramp operations at the airport in addition to providing comprehensive security services. The contract includes 24-hour support, ID center management, access control, visitor coordination and passenger screening.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with London Oxford Airport through ground handling and security operations,” said Stefan Murphy, managing director Unifi UK and Ireland. “Our team is proud to support the airport’s growth with industry-leading services, in what is a significant step for Unifi as we continue expanding our footprint in the UK.”

The company will onboard 35 staff to support the new contracts with ramp operations branded as “London Oxford Airport powered by Unifi.” Unifi’s existing aviation detailing services at the airport will continue through its Up & Away subsidiary.

Unifi purchased Up & Away, which has been providing detailing services at the airport since 2008, in summer 2023.

Kris Black, airport operations director at London Oxford Airport, cited the 17-year relationship with Up & Away as a foundation for the expanded partnership. “Their expertise, professionalism and deep understanding of aviation operations is renowned,” he said.

London Oxford Airport, which the Reuben Brothers investment group owns, has experienced strong growth in on-demand flight operations. The owners are currently investing £48 million (US$64 million) in building the new AerOx Science and R&D Park, along with an additional 70,000 square foot hangar.

London Oxford Airport has become one of the UK’s fastest-growing business aviation hubs over the past decade. The Reuben Brothers also own London Heliport in Battersea, which is 22 minutes by helicopter from Oxford.

Unifi operates at more than 220 airports globally and services over two million flights annually. The company provides ground handling, passenger transport, security, cabin services and ground support equipment maintenance.
