Gulfstream Aerospace has finalized a $30 million expansion of its St. Louis completions operations that adds aircraft interior outfitting capabilities to the site.
The company inaugurated the expanded facility at St. Louis Downtown Airport during a ceremony on May 1. The project was originally announced in 2023 and complements the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility Gulfstream opened at the same location in 2017.
“This St. Louis facility expansion is a continuation of our company-wide growth strategy to support the production of Gulfstream’s industry-leading fleet,” said Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream.
Burns said the expansion positions the company to support completions of next-generation aircraft as global demand increases.
The expanded operation has created 200 new jobs at the site. While many positions have been filled, Gulfstream continues to recruit for roles in avionics, interior installations, cabinet fabrication and cabinet finishing.
Gulfstream now employs more than 675 people at its St. Louis campus, which encompasses a total facility footprint of 645,013 square feet.
“The St. Louis area is a booming aviation hub filled with skilled and capable talent, and that has played a role in our continued investment in the region,” Burns added.
To develop its workforce, Gulfstream has partnered with local educational institutions including a high school assistant program with Cahokia Heights and The Center for Academic and Vocational Excellence in Belleville.
Students enrolled in this program receive on-the-job experience while in school and can transition to full-time positions at Gulfstream upon graduation.
The St. Louis expansion is part of Gulfstream’s broader facility investment strategy, which includes new service centers in Mesa, Arizona, and Fort Worth, Texas, a paint hangar in Appleton, Wisconsin, and the recently expanded Savannah service center.
The St. Louis facility provides dedicated hangar space and services for the entire Gulfstream fleet, which ranges from the super-midsize G280 to the ultralong-range G800.
Gulfstream is a subsidiary of General Dynamics and has more than 3,300 aircraft in service worldwide.
