Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) has broken ground on a new hangar for corporate and general aviation aircraft, with an expected completion date of summer 2019.
The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) hosted a ground-breaking ceremony to officially begin construction of Hangar 11. The hangar will be a 54,000ft² facility that is designed for all types of general aviation aircraft, and will be equipped to accommodate the newer line of corporate jets that weigh up to 100,000 lb such as the Gulfstream 650.
The first hangar built at ABE since 2006, the Airport Authority received a US$6m grant from the PennDOT Bureau of Aviation to boost the financial feasibility in developing this project.
Thomas Stoudt, executive director at Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, said, “There is high demand for hangar space in the Northeast Corridor, and we have the land available to make this important infrastructure investment and feel strongly that Hangar 11 will be an attraction for more aircraft making their home in the Lehigh Valley.”
Anthony McCloskey, director at PennDOT Bureau of Aviation, added, “The Bureau of Aviation continuously supports aviation throughout the state of Pennsylvania from our general aviation airports to our commercial airports.
“The Hangar 11 project is another great example of providing and expanding opportunities for the airport and local community to grow in conjunction with spurring and attracting economic growth in the Lehigh Valley.”
