Gill Aviation, the FBO at David Wayne Hooks Airport (KDWH) in northwest Houston, is expanding operations ahead of the FIFA World Cup, with the airport serving as an FAA-designated reliever for Houston Bush Intercontinental.
The facility handles approximately 275,000 aircraft movements annually and can accommodate aircraft up to large-cabin, ultra-long-range business jets. For the tournament, the FBO has planned additional staffing across all departments, expanded Jet A and 100LL fueling capacity including an additional refueler truck, and enhanced crew lounge facilities with multiple screens for live match viewing.
“It’s an exciting opportunity, and we’re proud to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime event,” said Amy Mounger, general manager of Gill Aviation. “We started planning months in advance, and we’re ready for what customers will need during this multi-week experience.”
Located minutes from Houston and The Woodlands with direct freeway access, the airport offers an alternative to more congested downtown airports. Mounger said taxi wait times are minimal and passengers can be on the road within minutes of arrival.
A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is expected around NRG Stadium on match days, but Gill Aviation said it does not expect to be affected due to the airport’s distance from the venue. Operators should plan for possible prior permission required (PPR) and slot coordination requirements, and are encouraged to contact the FBO directly for the latest guidance.
Gill Aviation’s fuel supply is backed by Phillips 66 Aviation. “They’ve been a reliable supplier for us for decades. We have no trouble getting any supply of fuel we need,” Mounger said.
The FBO was founded by the Gill family in 1989 and is a Phillips 66-branded location.
