High Flying Hangars has broken ground on an 11.45-acre hangar development at Frederick Municipal Airport (KFDK) in Maryland, the first new hangar construction at the airport in more than two decades.
The project will be built in two phases, with 44 hangars in Phase 1 and approximately 34 hangars in Phase 2. Hangars are available in sizes ranging from 1,245sq ft (116sq m) to 8,000sq ft (743sq m), with the larger units featuring in-unit bathrooms and in-floor drainage. All units are fully insulated steel construction with polished concrete floors, LED lighting, high-speed internet and infrared heating.
Phase 1 also includes a Hangar Club clubhouse with restrooms, a meeting room, commercial kitchen, patio and a sky deck overlooking the flight line.
“As Maryland’s fastest-growing city, Frederick is a community on the move,” said Kenny Hinkes, CEO of High Flying Hangars. “New businesses are choosing to locate here, new families are making Frederick their home, and the airport has an important role to play in supporting that growth.”
Airport manager Andrew Moore said: “This project represents a significant investment into the growth story of the Frederick Municipal Airport as the preferred access point to the region.”
Frederick Municipal Airport serves general and business aviation traffic for the surrounding Maryland region and the northern Washington, DC, metropolitan area. The groundbreaking was attended by Frederick City mayor Michael O’Connor, local officials and Randy Sibold, CEO of general contractor Warner Construction.
