Skyports Infrastructure has secured nine projects in Japan during 2026, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading partner for vertiport development and AAM network planning in Japan.

Skyports, which describes itself as a global leader in vertiport infrastructure and operations for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), worked alongside major Japanese corporations including Kanematsu Corporation and Mitsui Fudosan on the projects.

The geographic spread and scale of the projects point to accelerating momentum in Japan’s AAM market, according to Skyports, with local authorities and industry partners increasingly focused on the infrastructure, networks and commercial planning needed to make future AAM services a reality.

Masashi Taruta, Japan country manager at Skyports Infrastructure, said, “Securing all nine subsidy projects we participated in is a strong endorsement of Skyports’ expertise and the role we are playing in shaping Japan’s emerging Advanced Air Mobility market. From Osaka and Hyogo to Oita, Yamanashi, Shizuoka and Mie, we’re working alongside some of Japan’s leading companies to turn AAM ambitions into credible, deliverable infrastructure plans.”

“The breadth of these projects demonstrates the momentum building across Japan, and we’re proud to be a trusted partner helping lay the foundations for future commercial operations,” he added.

In Osaka Prefecture, a project led by Kanematsu Corporation and supported by subsidy programs from both Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City includes a basic design and business case for a future maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Osaka City, alongside the identification and evaluation of vertiport candidate sites across the prefecture. Skyports is supporting Kanematsu in delivering these studies.

In Hyogo Prefecture, Skyports secured four separate subsidy projects led by Kanematsu Corporation, covering vertiport location feasibility studies and the development of basic vertiport designs and operational concepts at Sumoto City on Awaji Island, Kinosaki Onsen, the Kobe waterfront area and Arima Onsen. The projects are funded by Hyogo Prefecture, with the Kinosaki Onsen project additionally funded by Toyooka City.

In Oita Prefecture, a project led by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) is exploring the implementation of AAM across the prefecture, with Skyports leading commercial feasibility studies and identifying potential vertiport locations.

In Yamanashi Prefecture, a project is exploring the integration of a vertiport around the Linear Chuo Shinkansen station, with Skyports carrying out preliminary vertiport survey and planning work. In Shizuoka Prefecture, a project led by Suzuyo Corporation centers on a business feasibility study in the Shizuoka City area, with Skyports supporting site surveys and verification for future vertiports.

In Mie Prefecture, a project led by Mitsui Fudosan and Ise-Shima Resort Management is exploring a future air taxi network across the Chubu and Kansai regions, centered on Ise-Shima. Skyports is supporting the identification and assessment of potential vertiports, alongside their integration with existing transport networks.

Masafumi Nishikawa, general manager of the aerospace department at Kanematsu Corporation, said, “Japan’s AAM market is entering an important new phase, with the focus increasingly shifting towards planning practical infrastructure and commercial operations.

“Our initiatives in Osaka and Hyogo with Skyports reflect this transition, exploring not only urban mobility services but also a broad range of AAM applications, including regional connectivity, tourism, and other use cases that can help address societal challenges and support industrial development.”
