Signature Aviation has broken ground on a hangar and office development at Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport (ROA) in Virginia, investing more than US$10 million in its facilities at the airport where it has operated since 1957.
The project adds a 22,000sq ft (2,044sq m) hangar with a 28ft (8.5m) door designed to accommodate the latest generation of large-cabin business jets, an attached 3,000sq ft (279sq m) office facility and a 14-bay parking lot. Construction is being led by Roanoke-based Lionberger Construction, with completion expected in 2027.
The hangar forms part of a broader investment program at ROA that also includes the rebuilding of Signature’s fuel storage facility and the installation of a self-serve Avgas fuel pump, completed in December 2025.
“Signature’s history at ROA is not just measured in years, but in the relationships, aircraft and regional missions we have supported since the Piedmont Aviation era,” said Jim Hopkins, senior vice president of airport relations and strategic programs at Signature Aviation. “This project allows us to build on that foundation with modern infrastructure that responds directly to guest and customer demand.”
Mike Stewart, president and CEO of the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, said: “Signature’s investments reflect their confidence in the future business needs of our region and will make ROA more attractive to the aircraft owners, operators and businesses that rely on this airport.”
The development was part of Signature’s 2024 bid to continue serving the airport. Signature’s presence at ROA dates back to Piedmont Aviation in 1957.
