AutoFlight has been selected for the first round of Hong Kong’s Regulatory Sandbox X program, a government-led initiative to advance low-altitude economy applications in the city through compliant test flights and scenario validation.
Two of the four projects approved under the program will use AutoFlight’s heavy-lift eVTOL aircraft. The initiative was launched by Hong Kong’s Transport and Logistics Bureau with support from the Civil Aviation Department.
AutoFlight will work with partners including China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Automobile Services and AECOM on route planning, flight parameter calibration and end-to-end flight validation. The trials are intended to support the development of low-altitude commercial routes across the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area.
Xie Jia, senior vice president of AutoFlight, said the company would use the program to deepen its investment in core eVTOL technology and commercial deployment, working with the Civil Aviation Department and industry partners to help scale the Greater Bay Area’s low-altitude economy.
AutoFlight is based in Kunshan, China, and recently completed a mixed-fleet formation flight of three eVTOL aircraft. Its cargo hybrid-electric V5000CGH variant has entered airworthiness certification with China’s Civil Aviation Administration.
