W Aviation at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) has launched a humanitarian airlift to deliver emergency supplies to Venezuela following the twin earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, killing more than 1,400 people and injuring thousands.
The FBO is serving as the central collection and logistics hub for the initiative, called Wings of Hope for Venezuela. AEG Fuels has supported the mission through aircraft owners who have donated aircraft and flight crews for the relief flights. The operation is also supported by South Florida nonprofit Giving Smiles TTLO and Sunrisas, an organization working with communities in affected areas.
The first relief aircraft arrived in Caracas on June 28, with three additional flights scheduled and more expected as donations continue. More than 150 volunteers gathered on the first day of the donation drive to sort and prepare thousands of pounds of supplies for air transport.
“Watching our aviation community, volunteers, nonprofit organizations, businesses and local leaders unite for one purpose has been truly inspiring,” said Ignacio Martinez, president of W Aviation. “Every box packed, every hour volunteered, every aircraft donated and every contribution represents hope for families facing unimaginable hardship.”
While aircraft and crews have been donated, the mission still requires funding for fuel, landing fees, airport handling and logistics. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to sustain the flights.
The coalition is collecting non-perishable food, bottled water, baby supplies, hygiene products, blankets, medical supplies, clothing and other relief items.
